The South African CAPS Grade 10 English curriculum is offered at two levels—Home Language (HL) and First Additional Language (FAL)—each structured across four main skills: Listening and Speaking, Reading and Viewing, Writing and Presenting, and Language Structures and Conventions . It develops learners' ability to engage critically with a variety of literary and non-literary texts—including poetry, drama, novels, short stories, cartoons, and advertisements—while preparing them for the FET Phase examinations through focused study of literature, language in context, and extended writing tasks.
