CAPS Grade 11 Life Sciences

The South African CAPS Grade 11 Life Sciences curriculum covers three main knowledge strands across the academic year: Diversity, Change and Continuity (including biodiversity of micro-organisms, plants, and animals), Life Processes in Plants and Animals (photosynthesis, animal nutrition, cellular respiration, gas exchange, excretion), and Environmental Studies (population ecology and human impact on the environment) . It emphasizes the development of scientific enquiry skills through practical investigations, case studies linking science to real-life situations, and formal assessment tasks with examinations consisting of two 2.5-hour papers, each worth 150 marks.
