CAPS Grade 12 Life Sciences
The South African CAPS Grade 12 Life Sciences curriculum for the FET Phase is the culmination of the learning trajectory, preparing students for the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations across two three-hour papers . Paper 1 covers Life Processes in Plants and Animals, including topics such as human reproduction (male and female reproductive systems, hormonal control, menstrual cycle, fertilizations, pregnancy, and birth), the nervous system and sense organs, the endocrine system, homeostasis, and plant responses to the environment . Paper 2 covers Diversity, Change and Continuity and Environmental Studies, focusing on DNA (structure, replication, protein synthesis, mutations, genetic engineering), meiosis, genetics and inheritance (Mendelian laws, monohybrid and dihybrid crosses, pedigree analysis, genetic disorders), evolution (theories, evidence, human evolution, speciation), and human impact on the environment.
