CAPS Grade 12 Physical Sciences

The South African CAPS Grade 12 Physical Sciences curriculum for the FET Phase is the culmination of the learning trajectory, preparing students for the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations across two three-hour papers . Paper 1 (Physics) covers Mechanics (Newton's Laws, momentum, projectile motion), Waves, Sound & Light (Doppler effect), Electricity & Magnetism (electrodynamics, circuits, motors and generators), and Optical Phenomena (photoelectric effect) . Paper 2 (Chemistry) focuses on Chemical Change (rates, equilibrium, electrochemistry), Matter & Materials (organic chemistry, polymers), and Chemical Systems (galvanic and electrolytic cells) . The final mark is composed of the two exam papers (75%) and School-Based Assessment (25%), which includes prescribed experiments.
