Grade 12 IEB Accounting
The IEB Grade 12 Accounting curriculum for the FET Phase is the culmination of the learning trajectory, preparing students for the final National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination across two papers written on the same day . Paper I (2 hours, 200 marks) predominantly assesses the application of skills, focusing on theoretical knowledge and the recording and reporting of financial information, including year-end adjustments, financial statements, and cost calculations, while Paper II (2 hours, 100 marks) emphasizes problem-solving and analysis, requiring learners to interpret financial data, calculate and analyze ratios, and solve problems to identify areas of concern or excellence . Across both papers there is a cognitive weighting of 60% lower order levels (knowledge, comprehension, application) to 40% higher order levels (analysis, synthesis, evaluation) . School-Based Assessment contributes 100 marks and includes a preliminary examination (30%), three standardized tests (45% total), and one task chosen from options such as a project, case study, oral presentation, computer assignment, or written report (25%) . The curriculum is designed to move towards the assessment of professional competence at a senior secondary level, with an emphasis on the learning process rather than rules, and a broader focus on general business and economic knowledge, particularly in Paper I.
