Grade 12 IEB Life Sciences

The IEB Grade 12 Life Sciences curriculum for the FET Phase is organized across four main knowledge strands: Life at the Molecular, Cellular and Tissue level (DNA, genetics, protein synthesis), Diversity, Change and Continuity (evolution, natural selection, speciation), Environmental Studies (population ecology), and Life Processes in Plants and Animals (human endocrine system, reproduction in plants and animals) . The final assessment comprises two theory papers (Paper I: 3 hours, 200 marks; Paper II: 2 hours, 100 marks), a 1.5-hour Practical Assessment Task (50 marks), and School-Based Assessment (100 marks), with Paper II featuring case studies and a source-based essay focusing on one knowledge strand that rotates annually.
